High School Chemistry Brien McMahon High School 2010-2011 School Year Pending Finalization of Budget Salary range:? $47,683 - $106.994 ? JOB DESCRIPTION: Implements the educational activities of the classroom. Receives general supervision from the building principal and technical supervision from the instructional supervisor of science. Demonstrates excellent classroom supervision, communicates appropriately with students, parents, community, guidance counselors, department chairperson and school administrators. Assumes personal responsibility for his/her professional growth. Instructs chemistry grades 10-12. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.? Instructional Program: ???? a.??? Works with instructional supervisor to implement, strengthen, improve program. ???? b.??? Keeps informed of new developments in curriculum, instruction methods. ???? c.??? Implements new and established programs. ???? d.??? Provides students with diversified learning activities. ???? e.??? Helps interpret the curriculum to parents. 2.? Classroom Supervision:??? ???? a. ?? Teaches students good study habits. ???? b. ?? Promotes positive self-concept in each student; provides encouragement to each student to develop his or her full potential. ???? c.??? Understands social and emotional adjustments of students. ???? d. ?? Promotes student awareness and respect for different cultures. ???? e. ?? Creates appropriate learning atmosphere in classroom; maintains classroom order. ???? f.???? Maintains student attendance and tardiness records. ???? g.??? Assists in determining on-going budgetary needs of department. b.? Performs related duties as required ? REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: CT certification in Chemistry 7-12.? Teacher must be Highly Qualified under No Child Left Behind. Knowledge and skills required would generally be acquired with a Bachelor’s degree in Education or in a field appropriate to Chemistry. Educational background in Chemistry and thorough knowledge of the content area. Knowledge of teaching methods, materials and education practices applicable to secondary school teaching.? Ability to learn, teach, and appropriately apply curriculum requirements of the high school Chemistry program. Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Ability to prepare effective plans which include the laboratory experience as an integral part of the program.? Ability to differentiate instruction for a diverse student population. Experience with cooperative learning, alternative assessment, grading procedures and modifications, and laboratory procedures.? ? PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: CT Certification in Physics 7-12.?
