DEPARTMENT HEAD-MATHEMATICS Stamford High ? GENERAL STATEMENT ? The Department Head - Mathematics, reports directly to the Principal. The position is effective July 1, 2008 and will continue through June 30, 2011.? The filling of this position is contingent upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.? ? MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES ? ???????? Demonstrates leadership in all aspects of the department. ???????? Coordinates or serves on district curriculum committees. ???????? Participates in the development and articulation of the Mathematics curriculum. ???????? Coordinates the implementation of the high school Mathematics curriculum. ???????? Participates in the interview process for teaching candidates at the discretion of the Principal. ???????? Identifies staff development needs within the department. ???????? Teaches a minimum of three (3) classes. ???????? Assists in preparing an annual budget for the department. ???????? Coordinates the student selection of courses within the department. ???????? Maintains an inventory of department supplies and equipment. ???????? Performs other related duties as assigned. ? QUALIFICATIONS ? ???????? Connecticut Professional Educator Certificate. ???????? Department Chair (#105) preferred, 092 accepted. ???????? A thorough knowledge of Mathematics methodology and teaching techniques. ???????? A Master’s Degree in secondary education in addition to graduate study in the Mathematics field, or a Master’s Degree in Mathematics with graduate work in secondary education. ???????? A minimum of five (5) years experience teaching on the secondary school level. ???????? The ability to work cooperatively with staff and to exercise leadership in the supervision of staff and the development of curriculum. ???????? The ability to organize the department so that the needs of pupils and the teaching of subject matter will be interwoven in the most effective manner. ???????? Superior communication skills (oral and written). ???????? High standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity. ?
TERM ? Three (3) years. ? WORK YEAR ? 186 days per year. ? SALARY ? The salary for this position is determined in accordance with the provisions of the current teacher contract.? ?
