SUMMER SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR ? GENERAL STATEMENT ? The Stamford Public Summer School Program services all students in grades K through 12.? The program provides consistent instruction that directly relates to district goals of increasing academic achievement of all students, addressing the achievement gap, and increasing the meaningful engagement of all families and the community.? Partnerships with community agencies have resulted in services that align academic instruction with recreational activities.? The Summer School programs support the goal of Stamford Public Schools in assuring that all students will be college ready by the time they graduate from high school.? The core elements of the summer school program are: literacy, small group instruction, and evaluation to monitor continual improvement, academic support in core academic subjects for high school students and support for family engagement. ? The Administrator for Summer School Programs will work with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Special Education, Department for English Language Learners, appropriate Central Office staff and building leaders to plan the needed academic support in literacy and core academic subjects for elementary, middle and high school students and enrichment if applicable.? ? MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES ???????? Coordinate and plan ?the summer school program for grades K-12, including professional development and the related curriculum; ???????? Work with Central Office staff and building leaders to review goals and expectations for the program; ???????? Recruit and hire summer school staff according to district policy; ???????? Supervise summer school teachers and the program at all designated sites; ???????? Plan, coordinate and supervise all summer transition programs such High School Prep Academy and other such programs in the summer; ???????? Coordinate among several stakeholders, including community based agency partners to schedule summer school related activities, including transportation; ???????? Collaborate with city offices in order to promote smooth implementation of Kronos payroll system; ???????? Meeting periodically with SPS staff to review progress; ???????? Flexibility in responding to issues related to the summer programs; ???????? Providing a summary report at the end of the culmination of the? program for SPS leaders and plan for opportunities for improvement; ???????? Submit a final report to the BoE in collaboration with the research office, including modifications and recommendations for future summer school programs. ? QUALIFICATIONS ???????? Prior successful experience as School/Central Office administrator with a 092 certification ???????? Knowledge of State, and National standards for core academic subject and their alignment with instruction; ???????? Experience with supervision of teachers and other staff in urban public schools; and ???????? Carrying out projects on schedule. ? ? TERM ? 2/1/09 ? 6/30/09 not to exceed 45 days.?
