This tutoring position is in our Supplemental Educational Services (SES) department. We are currently hiring tutors for the 2011-2012 school year.
Location
Hartford/New Britain/Manchester
Function
Tutors will deliver reading, writing and/or math instruction to students in grades K-12 in a 1-on-1 or small group setting.
Responsibilities
• Teach K-12 students reading, writing and math concepts.
• Deliver instruction in an effective manner that engages and motivates students and follows sets goals.
• Continuously monitor and report student progress; adjust learning goals as needed.
• Be flexible, patient, attentive and responsible when dealing with students, parents and teachers.
• Customize and craft effective tutoring plans that address student weaknesses and strengths.
• Meet with teachers and other school personnel to set individual goals for students.
• Attend and successfully complete all mandatory tutor training sessions.
• Complete and submit by all necessary paperwork by deadlines including learning plans, progress reports, attendance records, and communication logs.
• Have excellent writing, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrate a mastery of various K-12 school subjects such as English, math and writing.
• Must be motivated and dedicated to helping students improve and succeed academically.
• Perform all required duties associated with position.
Education
Requires a minimum of a bachelors degree. Those with a teaching certification are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications and Skills
• Experience or strong desire to work with at-risk youth
• Strong Verbal, Written, and Interpersonal Communication Skills
• Previous instructional experience and/or successful completion of education course work
• Knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word
• Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks within identified timeframes
• Organized, professional, energetic and detail-oriented
• Positive attitude, flexibility and problem solving mentality.
• Patient and understanding personality; strong character values
• All tutors must successfully complete national and state criminal background history checks before contact with students
Other Requirements
Access to a computer with internet connection Microsoft office; Access to reliable transportation.
Compensation
$20-$50 per hour depending on student assignment, # of students in group, education, certification and experience. This is a part-time position with a maximum of 20 hours per week.
